Thanks for visiting my (new) internet home.
I am James. I am a researcher at Career Karma, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at On Deck, and an author. In my spare time, I work on random projects, read books and essays, and bake. I love thinking about education, technology, and supporting young people.
I have lived in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 my entire life. I attended my local public schools until S6 (the final year of high school), during which year I dropped out to become a researcher.

Researcher, Career Karma (2019-Present)

At Career Karma, I am a researcher focused on coding bootcamps and education financing. I have published dozens of articles on topics such as coding bootcamps, apprenticeships, and higher education trends, and have published two major reports on topics related to my research. I also help out with other writing, including technical articles.

Entrepreneur-in-Residence, On Deck (2019-Present)

In my spare time, I provide advice to On Deck, a community focused on helping people who are looking to start or join their next thing. I have advised on projects related to Income Share Agreements and supporting young talent.

In my spare time, I like to work on side projects related to either my research or other topics I find interesting. I will be announcing a few new projects over the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Are you looking to chat with me but are not sure what to talk about? Below I have compiled a list of things I want to learn more about, and/or am actively thinking about.
  • What is writing?
  • What is an essay?
  • How can we encourage entrepreneurship among young people?
  • What is good work?
  • Income Share Agreements
  • Charter cities
  • Coding bootcamps
  • Helping young and ambitious people start their careers in tech
  • How can we encourage young people to be more curious?
  • Why have apprenticeships not become more popular in the US?
